Coming into a church for the first time can be kind of intimidating, but we don’t want it to be! Below are a series of Q&A we’ve found help people get a feel for New Hope before they step through the door.
Who goes there? What ages make up your church?
Gratefully we are an inter-generational church – meaning that all the generations are represented. We try our best to pay attention to what each generation has to offer. We seek to learn from the childishness of our kids and the wisdom of our seniors. We also have people from many diverse church backgrounds that attend.
What are your services like?
We like to include a variety of elements in our worship service. These things vary from week to week. We sing hymns and contemporary worship music. Sometimes we have times of silence where we can reflect. Each month we take communion together. Every Sunday there is a message that looks to both understand the Bible and understand how our lives fit into the biblical story (notice it’s not the other way around).
What should I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable wearing. We believe that what a person looks like on the outside is not nearly as important as on the inside. Some dress in suits and some come in jeans and t-shirts.
When are the service times?
We have two worship services on Sundays – Our morning service begins at 10:o0 a.m. on Sundays (they go about an hour, usually not longer than an hour and 15 minutes). Our evening service (Relevant) meets every 1st and 3rd Sundays at 6:00 p.m. at the Mellow Minded Cafe in Linglestown (www.mellowmindedcafe.com). They go no longer than an hour, with opportunity to talk afterwards.
What about my children?
During our 9:00 a.m. Sunday School hour we have classes for all ages – nursery through high school. During our 10:00 a.m. worship service we have classes for nursery-6th grade, with Preschool/kindergarten worshiping in their room, the Castle Garden. Elementary, Jr. & Sr. High worship with their parents in “big church.” They will be dismissed before the message to their respective classes. Each child’s class has a Bible based curriculum with wonderful teachers and helpers who share the message of Jesus.
Do you offer a Sunday School?
Yes we do! We call them Adult Education Classes. Classes are from 9:00 to 9:45 am. each Sunday morning. Classes are designed for all age groups. For additional information, see our Adult Ministries tab.
