New Hope and its community impact ministry, The Partnership for Hope, are working with others to make a difference in our communities. Here are some of the ways God is at work:
We've
been blessed to work with the staff of the Interfaith Family Homeless
Shelter in Harrisburg to provide household necessities and loving care
to families returning to housing. Retailers donated over $70,000 to our
efforts in 2011 as the people of New Hope and others in our community
contributed their time, heart, and even more donations in our efforts to
bless over 30 families!
The Get Up! Get Active! after school fitness program was created by New Hope to combat childhood obesity and to bring awareness of God's care and character to build esteem for kids who might be struggling emotionally. It's an active collaboration of Central Dauphin School District, Messiah College and Highmark, Inc.
We've been blessed to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the men and staff at Keystone Correctional Services facilities and provide opportunities for worship and mentoring. Plans are underway to expand our impact there through a clothing bank, personal hygiene kits, a mentoring network, case management technology, and a larger collaboration of churches for worship services and recovery ministry.
New Hope was privileged to
organize and host this year’s Dauphin County Faith Summit. The Summit
was created to connect churches to people in need and was attended by
over 100 ministry and community leaders, to include our county’s
president judge, Todd Hoover, Commissioner George Hartwick, Human
Services Director Peter Vriens, and Sandra Moore, an advocate for
faith-based initiatives from Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court. Government
leaders spoke to the needs they see in our communities and provided
specific opportunities for churches to be involved in meeting those
needs. And representatives from ministries were challenged to look for
opportunities to work with each other to better serve hurting kids,
adults, and families.
